A Question of Perspective

Saturday, March 13th, 2010

When you’re on the ground and looking at things close up, it’s often difficult to get a good grasp of the nature of the beast. The Relay For Life Clothing Fair 2010 is a lot like that. My first glimpse of it was on the ground at the New Delhi region.

Charming little village but as I looked around, I realized how much I wasn’t seeing.

It didn’t take me long to realize that the fair this year was bigger than ever. With eight regions themed for the fashion capitals of the world, there’s bound to be something for everybody.

It didn’t matter where I stood, I couldn’t get a good look at all of it. Perhaps because there was just too much to see. The central plaza in the Entertainment region is filled with sculpture and festooned with stages.

But even from there, you can’t really see everything. There’s just too much to see. I tried getting up high enough to see over the whole region. Somebody said this guy’s name was Nelson. He looked like a Nelson to me.

But even from way up there, I couldn’t really get a sense of the thing. It was too big — just too vast to take in from a single vantage point. Or at least that’s what I thought until I came to a small corner of the middle region. That’s when I really saw the big picture and I got a very clear picture of what the Clothing Fair is all about.

Yes, it really is a question of perspective.

In_Memoriam

Thank you to all the people who have worked so hard to make the Clothing Fair one of the premier events in SL. As we spend the next nine days celebrating and enjoying the creations that are gathered here for this special time, remember that every linden you spend goes to a worthy cause.

I recently got this press release about a show coming up to benefit a worthy cause and wanted to pass it along. Lani Jaxxon has been working hard to herd a bunch of cats and it’s going to happen in just a few days now.

Simone a la Lagerfeld

Thursday, March 4th, 2010

I’ve long admired the classic Lagerfeld advertisements for Chanel. There’s an iconic set from (I think) the ’90s with a wide format image with the single word Chanel on it. There are dozens of them. Ever since we did the Oh Simone! Show for Eclectic Visions last year, I’ve been obsessing about doing a kind of homage to Lagerfeld’s vision featuring the work of Simone!

This is the best one so far, I think.

Mix and Match

Monday, March 1st, 2010

I said earlier that I love all these separates from Simone! They make mix and match a breeze.

The baggy jeans and blue twill shirt are separates from Style Starts Here. I took the jacket from yesterday’s suit and added it to dress up this very casual look. I love the way the baggy jeans drape and the shading in the shirt is superb, even if you can only see a little of it in this picture. The suit jacket adds just the right amount of polish and class.

Seriously, guys, if you’re looking to fill in a wardrobe with some great looking pieces that all work well together at a very reasonable price, you need to get your avis over to Simone! and Style Starts Here.
